About Me

I am a freelance writer and disability advocate author.

I worked as an English teacher in a rural Indiana high school for five years, then left teaching to work as a stay-at-home mom and freelance writer. I've worked as an SEO copywriter and editor for a variety of different clients over the past six years.

My freelance writing samples can be viewed in the "web writing" tab of this site.

When my son was diagnosed with autism in 2012, I became interested in autism research and advocacy. I am currently working on publishing a guidebook for parents of autistic children with advice generated from interviews I conducted with autistic adults. It will be published by Autism Aspergers Publishing (AAPC) this year.

I currently maintain LearnfromAutistics.com, a website for parents and caregivers of autistic children. Learn from Autistics believes in the value of including autistic individuals in the public conversation about autism and publishes books and articles that promote autism acceptance and neurodiversity.

I also have written personal essays about my experiences learning to care for my extremely premature son that are available in an ebook collection on Smashwords. My four children are my muses, including my oldest son who was born three months early and has been diagnosed with ataxic cerebral palsy and classic autism.
